How to Create a Beautiful Geisha Costume

Forum Novelties Madame Butterfly Geisha Costume
Looking for a costume that has elegance, grace, beauty and an exotic flair? Why not dress up as a Geisha for Halloween or your next costume party? Whether you are dressing up as Mulan prior to her warrior transformation, Madame Butterfly, or any other famous Geisha, this post should be perfect for you! Let's get started on making our costume.
Rubie's Costume Geisha
Kimono Costume
First things first, you will need the costume based. This will need to be a Kimono, preferably in a bold colors such as red or black. At the top of this post is my personal favorite Geisha kimono set, a lovely red and gold number with a coordinating sash that stands out a mile away!

Alternatively, if you want something a little shorter and sexier, check out Rubie's Geisha Kimono Costume on the right, a beautiful and slimming black outfit with gorgeous pink, blue and gold detail. Each set comes with the kimono, the matching corset and skirt, as well as a pair of Geisha hair sticks, which is great if you are planning to style your own hair.

Geisha Asian Lady Wig
Speaking of hair styling, if you are up to the challenge of styling your hair in the traditional Geisha style, you can find a tutorial on how to do it here. If not, then don't worry! You can just pick up the black wig on the left to get the look right away. Pretty cool!

The shoes that match a Geisha's Kimono are called Zori sandals, and you can find a great pair here to go with your outfit. Other accessories you can use to finish off the look include a cute silk folding fan like this one, or a sweet parasol like this one.

Last but not least, one of the most famous things about the Geisha look is their highly iconic and bold makeup style. Above you can find a great tutorial on how to make up your face in the perfect way, and once you have done that, you are good to go! I hope you have a lot of fun dressing up and going out.
