With frills, lace, voluminous skirts and demure colors, the Victorians had an iconic and beautiful look that is admired and recognized more than a century later. What with Queen Victoria's long period of mourning, the most common style associated with Victorian clothing is gothic, dark and brooding. There are many amazing darkly colored Victorian style costumes and dresses out there. To avoid swamping you, I've picked out just a few of my favorites for this post.

My personal favorite is the amazing Lolita style dress featured as the top of this page. I'm a sucker for frills and bows, and this outfit provides in abundance. It would look amazing for high-class parties, masquerades, Victorian themed parties, and maybe even a garden party or two. If the weather is a little chilly where you live, this dress would look lovely paired with a black blouse like this one. 

If you prefer outfits with a lot less poof, the Victorian style still won't let you down. I particularly like the Victorian style Brocade Dinner Dress featured above, which combines steampunk color-schemes with a stunning and subtle Victorian theme. Each set of this costume comes with the lovely blouse and the matching long skirt. 

Another cool Victorian costume that I like is the mourning Widow Maker's costume by Forum Novelties on the right.I love the deep burgundy/black colors on this costume, they are so rich and eye-catching. The goth look isn't all the Victorian era had to offer, although it is seen as the most common. You can get many more colorful outfits out there if you want something bold and eye-catching. For example, check out the gorgeous Partiss Victorian dress costume above, a pretty and stand-out piece that is sure to bring out the color in anyone's eyes. If you prefer your blues, here are two costumes you might like. I love the new design for Cinderella's dress - it has more of an enchanting, ethereal feel that the original which gives our Princess a much more mystical, down-to-earth vibe. While you can find the officially licensed Cinderella wig here, I much prefer the one featured above - it's only $10 more expensive and has a much more realistic, less cartoony look, which goes better with the more realistic style of the new movie. It can also be washed, unlike most wigs (they usually just fall apart when you do), which gives it much more re-usability. 

Last but not least, makeup! In the movie Cindy has quite a demur style of makeup for the eyes and some stand-out lips, but if you're more of an eye-gal, check out the tutorial above to learn how to create a truly stunning Cinderella-style look for your eyes. If you are big girly-girl and need your fairy costume to look pretty and perfect in pink, then one of these three cute costumes should work wonders for you! Meanwhile, if blue is your thing, maybe one of the two costumes above or the beautiful long skirted peacock fairy costume below is your perfect costume. The one on the left is my personal favorite, with it's glittery corset and sexy short skirt. Plus, it looks like a short skirted version of the Blue Fairy's dress for Pinocchio, which makes it perfect for a Disney themed costume party.

Another style of fairy costume that I particularly like are costumes that emulate nature, either animals, flowers and even seasons. Take for example the amazing asymmetrical skirted beauty above. The corset lacing, the peacock feather detail on the waist and the lacy sheer sleeves look truly spectacular. You also get a very cute matching peacock hair piece with every set to finish off the look.

If that particular nature themed fairy costume doesn't take your fancy, fear not, because there are plenty more wonderful pieces! For example, take a look at the elegant and refined Leg Avenue Woodland Fairy costume on the right. I really love how the skirt is cut and arranged to look like the petals on a flower. It looks really quite magical.

If you want to give the skirt a bit of lift and color like in the picture, then you'll want to pick up this beautiful purple petticoat.

On the left is a slightly more unusual nature themed fairy costume: an almost tribal nature look based on the Fall season. I especially like the Autumn leaf fringe on the base of the skirt - it looks very unusual and unique. This costume comes with the matching pixie wings.

Last, but not least, if you are looking for a spooky fairy costume for Halloween, then I've got the perfect one for you: the slinky and sexy gothic black fairy costume featured below.
