How to DIY Dress as Misty from Pokemon

Decent Misty costumes are actually quite hard to come by, as I learned when I was trying to make a costume for my very first anime convention back in my teens. I wouldn't ever order something pre-made, as they tend to be cheap knock-offs by companies that mysteriously disappear two week later, and I've never seen any with good reviews. Luckily, this is a super easy costume to make from ordinary clothing, many of which you may have lying about the house. This is how to do it!

Red Solid Suspenders

First up, Misty rocks a cool yellow tank top with a cropped bottom, pretty much exactly like the one on the right. It's fine to substitute this with a yellow t-shirt if it's cold out, the look is still very recognizable. Just combine your choice with a set of red suspenders like the one on the left.

I'll be really surprised if any of you didn't already have a set of high waisted denim shorts at home, so if you do that's half of the costume sitting about in your closet already! If not though, this is a great set to use. Attach the suspenders to the shorts and voila, that is the basic costume completed.

Finally, just finish off the look with your basic accessories. If you already have red hair, just give yourself a messy side ponytail, while everyone else would benefit from the awesome wig at the top of the page. Misty also wears Vans-style red and white shoes, and I've featured a very similar pair below. Why not finish off the look with a replica pokeball?

Hoping to cosplay as Misa-Misa this Halloween or for a convention? Or even just for fun? Well you're in for a treat, because there are loads of great Misa Amane costumes out there for all your Second Kira needs. Pretty much every outfit she wears in the show can be found online, and this post is going to take you through my favorites.

To start us off, at the top of this page we have her most famous outfit, the one she wears to her idol photo shoots. It's a gorgeous gothic lolita number with plenty of lace and frills, sure to make any girl look incredible. I would recommend pairing this costume with some lace elbow length gloves, and a black and white crucifix like the one featured on the left and you'll be good to go. This costume would also look very cute with some lacy stockings like these.

If you prefer Misa Amane's goth school girl look, then the outfit on the right will be perfect for you! I just love that tartan skirt - it's always the outfit that I choose when I cosplay as Misa. Each outfit is tailor made for you, so you can be sure of a perfect fit, and with each set you get everything you see in the picture. Cute!

Lastly, we have another cute school-girl style outfit, the white shirt and black skirt combo with a big old red bow. You can find that costume featured below. Once again this costume is tailor made to fit you, so you are sure to look great.

As well as the crucifix, lace gloves and stockings I mentioned above, the hair is also an important accessory to any Misa Amane costume. If you happen to already have long blond hair then all you need is to make two mini pigtails on the top of your head and let your hair loose and you're good to go. If not, have no fear, because you can perfectly replicate the look with the wig on the right. 

Last but not least, though it can be subtle, Misa has quite distinctive makeup, and of course, the Shinigami eyes, which would be the icing on the cake of any Second Kira costume. Below is a great video tutorial on how to achieve the look, so just follow that and you will look great!

How to Cosplay as Revy (Black Lagoon)

Black Lagoon is one of those anime that everyone should watch but sadly not enough people have heard about. The premise is simple: if you happen to have breasts, you are the most badass thing to walk the earth. That's what makes the main female lead Revy such a fun character, and a great one to cosplay. Though there are no official costumes, her look is very easy to put together. Here's how!

The main outfit is easy enough, just a black sleeveless tank top and some seriously short ripped up short-shorts. You can get both above for great low prices. The belt that Revy wears is called a pistol belt, and you can get one that is similar to hers here. That's the basic look, nice and easy. Next up, you'll need some accessories to finish off the look.

Revy normally carries her guns in a brown vertical shoulder holster - the one above is a pretty close match. Meanwhile you can find Revy's motorcycle gloves here. With those picked up, all you need is the hair and some killer combat boots - for the latter, the Volatile boots on the right are amazing, and for the former you can find a great Revy wig on the left below. I recommend using a bit of wax to give the fringe a more choppy look.

Last, but not least, you'll need to replicate Revy's tattoo. No need to go out and get inked; I recommend picking up a temporary henna tattoo kit and having a friend do up the look on your arm (or do it yourself if you have a very steady hand!). Be sure to do the skin sensitivity test beforehand, even if you've had henna tattoos before.

Whether you are having an anime themed Halloween or heading off to a convention, one of the best looks you can opt for are the two leading ladies of one of the greatest and most iconic anime of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Asuke and Rei are some of the most recognizable characters in anime, and there are some really cool costumes to choose from. 

Starting off with the demure but hard working Rei Ayanami, there are two types of costume available for her. First is her plug-suit for her EVA, featured above, and the second is her school uniform costume. Both are super cute, and very sexy! Any girl is sure to look amazing in either one.

Regardless of which costume you choose, you'll need to finish it off with some amazing blue hair - unless you are lucky enough to already sport a blue bob, you can find the perfect wig here.

Next up, we have the beautiful and glamorous Sailor Venus, or Mina Aino as she is known outside of her secret identity. She's definitely the most chic of the sailor scouts, so if you have a fashionista in your group, Sailor Venus might be the perfect role for her! Meanwhile, on the right is the costume you will need if you want to dress up as Sailor Mini-Moon, or Chibi-Usa in the Japanese. As Sailor Moon's daughter, and therefore the youngest Scout, she is best played by the youngest member of your group!

Here is a great costume idea for a pair of friends who just can't be separated: the close duo (be they lovers or cousins depending on which version of the show you watched!) of Sailor Uranus (costume on the left) and Neptune (featured on the right), or Amara Tenoh and Michelle Kaioh as they go by in the real world. You can find a very pretty Sailor Neptune wig to go with the costume here, while a Sailor Uranus wig is available here.

Next up, we have the Sailor of death, destruction, and slightly more optimistically, rebirth, the beautiful and cute Sailor Saturn! Last but not least, we have the dark and distant Sailor Pluto, guardian of time, and part-time physics student in her real-world disguise as Trista Meioh. This costume has a beautiful gothic look which I really like. If you don't already have long blank hair like Pluto's, don't worry! You can pick up a gorgeous long black wig here to do all the work for you. And don't let anyone tell you that Pluto isn't a planet anymore! 

How to Cosplay as Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon is awesome. Despite...'odd' dubbing, it remains one of the most iconic anime to be imported to the west, and girls and boys alike adored it. This post is going to be looking at how best to dress up as the main character, Sailor Moon, a.k.a Serena, or Usagi in Japan. First of all, you'll need the iconic sailor senshi costume. The one above it just perfect, and comes with the dress, headband and gloves. It doesn't come with the boots, but luckily Funtasma do a very similar pair of boots that you can use to finish off the look. This headband is also a popular purchase among cosplayers who use this outfit.

Next up, you'll want to style your hair like Serena's. The easiest way to do it is with a beautiful blond wig that is pre-styled, like the one on the right. If you want a less natural and more cartoony look to fit the anime style better, brighter yellow wigs are also available to check out.

In my Princess Serenity cosplay post I mentioned that it is possible to style your own hair like Sailor Moon's if you are lucky enough to have long, thick blond hair, so I'll post the great video tutorial of how to do it here again. Remember that this look does require hair extensions in order to get the proper thickness, and you can find some good ones here. 

Finally, finish the look off with some props and accessories. Here's some of my suggestions:

How to Create a Princess Serenity Sailor Moon Costume

Create the Perfect Princess Serenity Costume

Sailor Moon was my favorite Anime as a child, even if the 4Kids dubbing was monumentally confusing. (Zoicite is a girl...right?) Like most anime, the costumes are unique, iconic, and a ton of fun to dress up as and cosplay. My favorite of the costumes is that worn by Princess Serentity, Sailor Moon's past life incarnation and denizen of the lost Moon Kingdom. In this post we'll be looking at all the essential elements of a perfect Princess Serenity costume! Be sure to also check out my Sailor Moon costume guide for the regular costume.

Create the Outfit

Cosplay Fantasy's Princess Serenity Dress

First up you'll need Princess Serenity's signature white gown. There are a number of cosplay sites which sell dresses made to be exact replicas of the one in the show as well as the dress in the manga. They tend to be a little costly, but if you have money to spare I definitely recommend them because they are spectacularly beautiful as well as true to the material.

The one on the left is my personal favorite, which is based on the more silvery sleek dress from the manga. You can also find one which imitates the anime dress' more yellowy design, complete with cute puffy sleeves here.

If you are on a budget and want a cheaper alternative then a simple white or cream chiffon prom dress will also look great, such as this cream one or this elegant white one. The most important thing is to look flowing and elegant! Pick the dress that looks amazing on you.

Create the Hair Style

Creating the actual hairstyle from your own hair requires the right colored hair, the right length and the right hair thickness, meaning only a couple of girls will be able to pull it off. If you want to try, check out the video tutorial at the bottom of this post. For the rest of us, there are loads of super cute Sailor Moon hairstyle wigs to choose from to easily and instantly pull off the look.

Which color you go for really depends on whether your are more a fan of the anime or the manga - in the manga Princess Serenity has silver hair, whereas in the anime she remains blond like Sailor Moon. I personally prefer the silver haired look since it goes so well with the white dress, but both are beautiful.

Whatever your choice, finish off the hair style by decorating the buns with beautiful white flower hair clips, just like the Princess. This part is optional if you are going for the anime look since she isn't always wearing them, but absolutely necessary for the manga version of the Moon Princess! Here are some gorgeous ones with crystal centers fit for a princess! Another elegant alternative is this double white rose hair piece.

Have long, thick blond hair and want to have a go at styling it like Sailor Moon? Check out the video below for a tutorial on how to do it. This requires hair extensions (since your hair would have to be really thick otherwise!), and you can find some good ones here.
