Disney's Esmeralda Costumes for Kids and Teens (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Halloween is fast approaching, and I'm sure there will be lots of Disney characters and Princesses hitting the street. I'm hoping to see a few more of the more unusual ones, like the fiery and beautiful Esmeralda from one of my favorite 2D Disney movies ever, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This is my guide for kids on how to pull off the perfect Esmeralda costume! If you are looking for a guide for adults, you can find one here.

The upper part of Esmeralda's outfit is a white puffy sleeved peasant-style shirt, which are quite common and available for a variety of ages and budgets. Above is a cute off the shoulder design with beautiful frills. Check it out!

Next up, we have Esmeralda's flowing and beautiful purple skirt. There are quite a few long purple skirts for kids out there that would work perfectly - my favorite is the ruffle edged skirt above, which adds a very unique flair to the look. For an authentic look, you'll want a dance skirt. On the right is such a skirt, that you can find in purple at the link. These are especially cool in how much volume you get when you spin around and dance!

Between the skirt and top Esmeralda wears a blue corset. Obviously they don't make those for kids, but a great alternative is to pick up a jangly blue belly dance hip scarf like the one on the left. Alternatively, you can buy some blue satin fabric and tie or stitch it around her waist to form a blue band similar to Esmeralda's corset.

Last but not least, you'll need to do up her hair! This is easy enough if she already has long black hair: if not, you can get a cute wig here. Esmeralda also wears a purple headband or scarf - you can pick up a similar one here.

So there you have it! That is my guide to dressing up as Disney's Esmeralda for kids. I hope you found everything you need and have a lot of fun at Halloween! How to Dress Up as Esmeralda (Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of those seriously underrated Disney movies, despite how excellent it is - probably because as kids all the mature themes and the really deep story line just flew over our heads. Ah well. For those of you out there who appreciate this classic piece of animation, why not dress up as Esmeralda for Halloween? This post is going to show you how to do it. If you are looking for a guide for kids, you can find one here!

Dreamgirl Pretty and Peasant Ruffled Shirt Costume Accessory
I've been on the hunt for a decent Esmeralda costume out there, but I haven't found one yet that I'm completely happy with. This costume here is ok, but the color scheme isn't quite right and I'm sure we can do better than that! Instead of buying a pre-made costume then, let's put together our own. This is a very easy costume that doesn't require any stitching or skill.

Muka Navy Blue Underbust Corset
First of all, Esmeralda has a puffy sleeved, off the shoulder shirt that she wears as a top. The Dreamgirl Pretty and Peasant Ruffled shirt costume accessory featured above is a pretty good replica for this, so it'll serve as our base.

Next, on top of the shirt covering her waist Esmeralda has a blue underbust corset with yellow stripes - I haven't been able to find one exactly like it, but the blue corset on the right would make an excellent stand-in. If you are up for some crafts, you can paint or stitch yellow lines of fabric to make it as close as possible to the source material.

Belly Dance Vogue Bohemia Skirt
Last but not least, you will need a long and flowing skirt in a dark shade of purple. I like the bohemian style skirt on the left. For an optional extra, you can add this short coin skirt hip scarf on top. It gives your costume a bit of an extra glimmer and is great if you plan on doing some dancing.

So there you have it, that's all the bits and pieces you'll need for a stunning Esmeralda costume. I hope you like it and have a ton of fun!
