How to DIY Dress as Misty from Pokemon

Decent Misty costumes are actually quite hard to come by, as I learned when I was trying to make a costume for my very first anime convention back in my teens. I wouldn't ever order something pre-made, as they tend to be cheap knock-offs by companies that mysteriously disappear two week later, and I've never seen any with good reviews. Luckily, this is a super easy costume to make from ordinary clothing, many of which you may have lying about the house. This is how to do it!

Red Solid Suspenders

First up, Misty rocks a cool yellow tank top with a cropped bottom, pretty much exactly like the one on the right. It's fine to substitute this with a yellow t-shirt if it's cold out, the look is still very recognizable. Just combine your choice with a set of red suspenders like the one on the left.

I'll be really surprised if any of you didn't already have a set of high waisted denim shorts at home, so if you do that's half of the costume sitting about in your closet already! If not though, this is a great set to use. Attach the suspenders to the shorts and voila, that is the basic costume completed.

Finally, just finish off the look with your basic accessories. If you already have red hair, just give yourself a messy side ponytail, while everyone else would benefit from the awesome wig at the top of the page. Misty also wears Vans-style red and white shoes, and I've featured a very similar pair below. Why not finish off the look with a replica pokeball?

Ready to head off into the dark and solve some mysteries? Who better to go as but the intelligent and savvy, but hopelessly short sighted Velma from Scooby Doo? Pretty much every generation has grown up with one version of the show or another, and the basic look of the characters has always been the same, so it makes for an instantly recognizable and nostalgic costume. While you can get some great premade costumes out there, such as the two above, this is a very easy costume to make out of normal clothing. You'll probably have some of the things you need already, so just fill in the blanks!

Bright orange fashion was all the rage a few years back, and you might still have an old orange sweater hanging in your closet. If so, fantastic, because that'll be the centerpiece of your costume. If not, you can pick a perfect Velma style jumper above. You can get an orange jumper for kids here.

Next up, you will need a red pleated skirt or a skater-style skirt in red, to go with the jumper. A bit of an odd combo, but I guess Velma isn't the fashionista of the group, and hey, she pulls it off. If you don't already have one lying around, the one on the right is a good shout.

That is the basics of the costume. With those in place, you'll need to highlight the look with some great accessories. Velma wears knee high orange socks, so be sure to pick those up here. You can replace them with orange tights or longer socks if you anticipate being a little chilly. As for shoes, red or black flat Mary Jane style shoes are perfect, and you can find some wonderful red ones that fit the costume right here. And don't forget the glasses! You won't be able to see without your glasses!

If you fancy going all out, you can do up your make up in such a way as to totally enhance the costume. The tutorial above is a great way to start, plus it has guides to other Scooby Doo characters too. I also like this video tutorial on how to make fake make-up freckles, which would work well with Velma's look.

Finally, if you don't already have a short brown bob, have no fear! You can just tie your hair up and add a wig to replicate the hair style without having to take a pair of scissors to your head. The one on the right works well, and brown bob wigs are available at pretty much any party store.

The costume at the top of this page is her classic dress which she wear in the TV show. It's a beautiful lilac dress with a pretty two tiered skirt, and super pretty puffy sleeves. 

The other two costumes are inspired by her television show costume and are frequently seen worn by the Sofia the First dolls and toys, so she is sure to love both of these too! These costumes have lovely billowing skirts, which would benefit from a petticoat or hoop skirt to keep their shape and give them life. You can find a perfect petticoat for these costumes here.

The classic Disney characters are a big part of everyone's childhoods, and its never too late to live a bit of nostalgia or casually forget that whole growing up thing. One way to do it is to celebrate Halloween or a child's Birthday party with your own Minnie Mouse costume! There are loads to choose from, so to save you some time, I've narrowed it to my five favorites. Let's take a peek! This post is for all you US shoppers; if you are looking for Minnie Mouse costumes in the UK or EU, you can find those here. 

The most common style of Minnie Mouse costume is a cute polka dot mini dress in the style of Minnie's most common outfit. I've included just two of my favorites here. First, featured above, is her more classic red and white colored outfit, which comes with the adorable dress, the sequin and bow belt, and the mouse ears headband with matching bow.

If you prefer to look pretty in pink (as Minnie has in recent years), then take a look at the beautiful Disguise Glam Minnie costume featured on the right. I love the frilly style of the skirt! Each set of this costume comes with the very pretty pink dress and the matching Minnie Mouse ears with matching bow.

If you want a costume that is a bit more minimal and can be used to modify your existing clothing and dresses (a good way to save a bit of money!), then you can get some awesome Minnie Mouse accessory kits as your costume. 

I've included two of my favorites here, in a lovely shade of lilac and cute red. Both of these costumes come with the gloves, the choker, swishy tail and mouse ears. Pair them with a matching colored top and any pants and you have yourself a quick, easy and effective looking costume.

Last but not least, below we have a full Minnie Mouse mascot costume! It's really amazing looking and is a great option for those of you who want to go all-out. This is also a particularly cool option if you are throwing a Minnie Mouse themed party for a child and want to have the real thing show up to entertain the kids! There are loads of Poke-costumes available for adults and kids, starting with the above tutu dress style costumes of three of the starting four Pokemon, including everyone's favourite electric mouse, Pikachu! How to Cosplay as Misa Amane (Death Note)

Hoping to cosplay as Misa-Misa this Halloween or for a convention? Or even just for fun? Well you're in for a treat, because there are loads of great Misa Amane costumes out there for all your Second Kira needs. Pretty much every outfit she wears in the show can be found online, and this post is going to take you through my favorites.

To start us off, at the top of this page we have her most famous outfit, the one she wears to her idol photo shoots. It's a gorgeous gothic lolita number with plenty of lace and frills, sure to make any girl look incredible. I would recommend pairing this costume with some lace elbow length gloves, and a black and white crucifix like the one featured on the left and you'll be good to go. This costume would also look very cute with some lacy stockings like these.

If you prefer Misa Amane's goth school girl look, then the outfit on the right will be perfect for you! I just love that tartan skirt - it's always the outfit that I choose when I cosplay as Misa. Each outfit is tailor made for you, so you can be sure of a perfect fit, and with each set you get everything you see in the picture. Cute!

Lastly, we have another cute school-girl style outfit, the white shirt and black skirt combo with a big old red bow. You can find that costume featured below. Once again this costume is tailor made to fit you, so you are sure to look great.

As well as the crucifix, lace gloves and stockings I mentioned above, the hair is also an important accessory to any Misa Amane costume. If you happen to already have long blond hair then all you need is to make two mini pigtails on the top of your head and let your hair loose and you're good to go. If not, have no fear, because you can perfectly replicate the look with the wig on the right. 

Last but not least, though it can be subtle, Misa has quite distinctive makeup, and of course, the Shinigami eyes, which would be the icing on the cake of any Second Kira costume. Below is a great video tutorial on how to achieve the look, so just follow that and you will look great!

How to Cosplay as Revy (Black Lagoon)

Black Lagoon is one of those anime that everyone should watch but sadly not enough people have heard about. The premise is simple: if you happen to have breasts, you are the most badass thing to walk the earth. That's what makes the main female lead Revy such a fun character, and a great one to cosplay. Though there are no official costumes, her look is very easy to put together. Here's how!

The main outfit is easy enough, just a black sleeveless tank top and some seriously short ripped up short-shorts. You can get both above for great low prices. The belt that Revy wears is called a pistol belt, and you can get one that is similar to hers here. That's the basic look, nice and easy. Next up, you'll need some accessories to finish off the look.

Revy normally carries her guns in a brown vertical shoulder holster - the one above is a pretty close match. Meanwhile you can find Revy's motorcycle gloves here. With those picked up, all you need is the hair and some killer combat boots - for the latter, the Volatile boots on the right are amazing, and for the former you can find a great Revy wig on the left below. I recommend using a bit of wax to give the fringe a more choppy look.

Last, but not least, you'll need to replicate Revy's tattoo. No need to go out and get inked; I recommend picking up a temporary henna tattoo kit and having a friend do up the look on your arm (or do it yourself if you have a very steady hand!). Be sure to do the skin sensitivity test beforehand, even if you've had henna tattoos before.

Whether you are having an anime themed Halloween or heading off to a convention, one of the best looks you can opt for are the two leading ladies of one of the greatest and most iconic anime of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Asuke and Rei are some of the most recognizable characters in anime, and there are some really cool costumes to choose from. 

Starting off with the demure but hard working Rei Ayanami, there are two types of costume available for her. First is her plug-suit for her EVA, featured above, and the second is her school uniform costume. Both are super cute, and very sexy! Any girl is sure to look amazing in either one.

Regardless of which costume you choose, you'll need to finish it off with some amazing blue hair - unless you are lucky enough to already sport a blue bob, you can find the perfect wig here.

The toys and the show have been super-popular among people of all ages, and I'm sure there will be a lot of pony fans out on the streets trick-or-treating this Halloween, so why not show off your fandom? It makes a good group costume theme too. There's a tonne of fantastic My Little Pony costumes out there for fans to choose from, so I've included all of my favorites right here for you to check out. First of all, we have the costume for my personal favorite of the ponies, the loyal and energetic Rainbow Dash, featured above!
