Decent Misty costumes are actually quite hard to come by, as I learned when I was trying to make a costume for my very first anime convention back in my teens. I wouldn't ever order something pre-made, as they tend to be cheap knock-offs by companies that mysteriously disappear two week later, and I've never seen any with good reviews. Luckily, this is a super easy costume to make from ordinary clothing, many of which you may have lying about the house. This is how to do it!

Red Solid Suspenders

First up, Misty rocks a cool yellow tank top with a cropped bottom, pretty much exactly like the one on the right. It's fine to substitute this with a yellow t-shirt if it's cold out, the look is still very recognizable. Just combine your choice with a set of red suspenders like the one on the left.

I'll be really surprised if any of you didn't already have a set of high waisted denim shorts at home, so if you do that's half of the costume sitting about in your closet already! If not though, this is a great set to use. Attach the suspenders to the shorts and voila, that is the basic costume completed.

Finally, just finish off the look with your basic accessories. If you already have red hair, just give yourself a messy side ponytail, while everyone else would benefit from the awesome wig at the top of the page. Misty also wears Vans-style red and white shoes, and I've featured a very similar pair below. Why not finish off the look with a replica pokeball?

Big Girls' Velma Costume 

Ready to head off into the dark and solve some mysteries? Who better to go as but the intelligent and savvy, but hopelessly short sighted Velma from Scooby Doo? Pretty much every generation has grown up with one version of the show or another, and the basic look of the characters has always been the same, so it makes for an instantly recognizable and nostalgic costume. While you can get some great premade costumes out there, such as the two above, this is a very easy costume to make out of normal clothing. You'll probably have some of the things you need already, so just fill in the blanks!

Bright orange fashion was all the rage a few years back, and you might still have an old orange sweater hanging in your closet. If so, fantastic, because that'll be the centerpiece of your costume. If not, you can pick a perfect Velma style jumper above. You can get an orange jumper for kids here.

Next up, you will need a red pleated skirt or a skater-style skirt in red, to go with the jumper. A bit of an odd combo, but I guess Velma isn't the fashionista of the group, and hey, she pulls it off. If you don't already have one lying around, the one on the right is a good shout.

That is the basics of the costume. With those in place, you'll need to highlight the look with some great accessories. Velma wears knee high orange socks, so be sure to pick those up here. You can replace them with orange tights or longer socks if you anticipate being a little chilly. As for shoes, red or black flat Mary Jane style shoes are perfect, and you can find some wonderful red ones that fit the costume right here. And don't forget the glasses! You won't be able to see without your glasses!

If you fancy going all out, you can do up your make up in such a way as to totally enhance the costume. The tutorial above is a great way to start, plus it has guides to other Scooby Doo characters too. I also like this video tutorial on how to make fake make-up freckles, which would work well with Velma's look.

Finally, if you don't already have a short brown bob, have no fear! You can just tie your hair up and add a wig to replicate the hair style without having to take a pair of scissors to your head. The one on the right works well, and brown bob wigs are available at pretty much any party store.

What other than friendship is magic? Dressing up as ponies for Halloween! Woo! The toys and the show have been super-popular among people of all ages, and I'm sure there will be a lot of pony fans out on the streets trick-or-treating this Halloween, so why not show off your fandom? It makes a good group costume theme too. There's a tonne of fantastic My Little Pony costumes out there for fans to choose from, so I've included all of my favorites right here for you to check out. First of all, we have the costume for my personal favorite of the ponies, the loyal and energetic Rainbow Dash, featured above! Not only is it super colorful, each set of this costume comes with a huge amount of stuff: the character catsuit, the cute tail piece and the boot covers to resemble pony hooves, and the pony ears head piece. Next up we have the kind friend to all animals, the beautiful sun-yellow Fluttershy. Her gorgeous costume is featured on the right - isn't it the cutest? My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a hit among people of all ages, and it's easy to see why - colorful characters, cute but simple story-lines with good morals, and an imaginative set of toys to go with it. I bet there are loads of kids who'll be dressing up as ponies for Halloween this year! To help those of you shopping for a pony fan out, I've collected all of my favorite My Little Pony character costumes into one place for you to check out. Let's get started! First of all, we have my personal favorite of the ponies, the incredibly colorful Rainbow Dash! She's hardworking, loyal, and has the best design in my opinion. I'm a sucker for rainbows!

You can actually find two Rainbow Dash costume styles out there. Above there is a tutu-dress version, perfect for fancy dress birthday parties where there will be lots of running around and dancing! Each set comes with the dress, a detachable tail, as well as the ribbon bow headband. Pretty cute!

Meanwhile, on the right we have a more realistic style of pony cosplay in the style of the character itself. It comes with the Rainbow Dash jumpsuit, a detachable tail, and the pony face headpiece. That's everything she needs for the perfect Rainbow Dash look.

Next up we have the pony who is everybody's friend, the funny and adorable Pinkie Pie! Above is a great Pinkie Pie costume to get you started, a lovely, silky pink dress with a detachable tail. Alternatively, if you like the more dressy style of costume, there are not one, but two wonderful Pinkie Pie dresses to choose from! The one on the left comes with a detachable tail and the matching pink bow head piece, while the one on the right has a set of leggings in addition to this. Both are available in small, medium and large.

For some reason you have to buy all of the pieces of the Twilight Sparkle costume separately, which is a pain but doable. Above is the tail, on the right is the wig, while the boot covers are available here and the wings here. You can pick up the official dress to go with it here, but I personally think a plain lilac party dress like this one would match the accessories much better.
